This painting was inspired by my many visits to Point Lobos and Big Sur in California. I envisioned the afternoon sun glowing on the rocky coast. A lovely, young woman steps out on the terrace to feel the misty breeze and watch the waves rolling briskly to shore.
A lovely woman is seated on a gray velvet, chaise lounge. She is dressed in a soft yellow, silk evening gown. Gazing out to sea, she watches the colors changing in the evening sky, while anticipating going out to dinner with friends. A beautiful bouquet of roses in a large glass bowl catches the reflected light from the setting sun, highlighting the blue of the ocean and sky.

The coastline at Big Sur is alive with the movement of the waves crashing against the rocks and splashing into the coves, creating bridges and sheer cliffs over eons of time. I love hiking down the long pathways to witness the breathtaking beauty of land meeting the Pacific Ocean. The ocean can be tranquil and relaxing or rugged and alluring. Enjoy this painting as a window to the sea.
